Your First Visit
As a new patient of Dr. Jon, you and your child can expect the best treatment, both personal and medical. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted with a smile and checked in. All necessary forms will be discussed, completed, reviewed and updated. We will also take this opportunity to discuss any fees, insurance and payment methods.
Typically, most new patients will need age-appropriate X-rays. This offers Dr. Jon a clear view of your child's mouth and allows him to assess the health of your child's teeth jaws better and accurately diagnose potential problems.
First visits are usually short and involve very little treatment. It's an opportunity to meet you and your child and Dr. Jon will make sure the visit is friendly and non-threatening. During the exam, we check your child's existing teeth for decay, examine their bite, and look for any potential problems with the gums, jaw, and oral tissues. In addition, we will clean your child's teeth and assess the need for fluoride. We also take this time to discuss dental developmental issues and answer any questions about oral health care.
Some of the topics Dr. Jon regularly discusses with parents are:
- Good oral hygiene practices for your child's teeth and gums and cavity prevention
- The need for fluoride treatment
- Thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, and other oral habits
- Teething and other developmental milestones
- Proper nutrition
